Every homeowner should adhere to a house maintenance programme.

- Ensure that the laundry exhaust vents are clean.
- Remove the lint from the clothes dryer’s screen and rinse it.
- To avoid dirt buildup, run water and flush toilets in locations you haven’t used in a while.
- We find it helpful to utilise a checklist for each season when it comes to annual chores.
Spring Maintenance Checklist
The spring clean is an activity that is closely associated with the arrival of spring.
- Clean every crevice and nook! Doors, skirting boards, walls, and drapes are all examples.
- Cleaning the garage and the shed is a must.
It’s time to get ready for summer as the weather begins to warm up. Make sure your cooling systems are up to the task and take precautions to prevent insects from taking advantage of the warm weather.
- Make an appointment to get your air conditioning system serviced.
- Insects will not be able to enter if broken window screens are repaired or replaced.
- Make an appointment for a professional bug inspection and any required treatment. Termites, may do extensive damage before it is noticed.
Now is also the time to make sure you’re ready for all of the summer activities! Re-paint the backyard fence stumps, re-string the tennis racquets, and clean the barbeque.
Summer Maintenance Checklist
Take care of all the small chores that need to be done in the yard and on the exterior of your home while the weather is nice.
- Inspect your home’s exterior, including the paint, foundations, and driveway, and make any necessary repairs.
- Outdoor water taps and hoses should be flushed.
- Trim any trees or bushes that are overgrown, remove any dead plants, and make sure ornamental vines aren’t becoming invasive.
- Check any tree obstruction with power wires and, if required, have them cut.
- As needed, clean, repair, and reseal the deck/patio.

Autumn Maintenance Checklist
Replace the batteries in your smoke alarms.
- Use high-quality, long-life batteries to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Upgrade to smoke alarms that are powered by the mains (these need to be installed by a qualified electrician).
- Double-check that all smoke alarms are in good working order, are properly installed, are clean, and are free of obstructions.
- But don’t stop there; increase the level of safety and security throughout your home.
- Check that your RCDs and power outlets are working, and that any frayed electrical cords are replaced.
- Check all of your doors and windows for locks and deadbolts, and replace them if required.
- Make sure that everything in the house is solid and sturdy. Tighten all hinges, handles, knobs, racks, and shelves.
It’s also a good opportunity to double-check that your heating system is ready for the winter.
- Prepare your heating system for the next winter season.
- Check for leaks in windows and doors, and make sure vents are open and unobstructed if you have central heating.
- Have your wood-burning heater serviced.
- Clean your fireplaces and chimneys.
- To prevent leaks in the long run, flush your hot water heater to remove any sediment and open and close the pressure relief valve on the heater.
It won’t be long before the winter weather arrives, so stock up for those days when you just don’t feel like leaving the home! Help creative with the kids by getting some handicraft or culinary items, or go on a book and DVD hunt to get you through those wet nights.
Winter Maintenance Checklist
Autumn in Australia is a lovely season, but there’s no denying that all those autumn leaves can become a big hassle in the winter! It’s time to clear away the debris and make sure you don’t have any issues with water leaking or property damage during winter.
- Remove leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts, examine for cracks and drainage issues, and make any necessary repairs.
- Make sure water is properly draining and not accumulating near your home’s foundations.
- Inspect the roof and eaves for damage or leaks, and make any necessary repairs.
- Check for moisture damage under the home or in the basement, and make any necessary repairs.
And if you’re confined indoors on rainy days, take advantage of the chance to clean up the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry.
- In the kitchen and bathroom, clean the grout between the tiles and repair it as needed.
- Check for leaks in the faucets and clean the aerators.
- Caulking around showers and bathtubs should be checked and repaired as needed.
- Shower heads should be removed and any sediment should be cleaned.
- While the laundry is running, check for obstructions in the exhaust vents.
- Washing machine input filters should be cleaned, and hoses should be checked and replaced as needed.
