Passion, is the life blood of your career as a Real Estate Agent, and before a few of you get crazy passion as in heart – not passion as in lust. Few other careers or life callings need passion as much as Real Estate, they are physician, counselor, and minister or priest. Why is passion so important in a Real Estate Agent? Because you are not only dealing with your client or even your clients money, you are dealing with the very center of their life, their family and their future. This is a huge responsibility for you.
So what is passion? Noah Webster defines passion as; compelling emotion, and passionate as; having, compelled by, or ruled by intense emotions or strong feeling – fervid – zealous. Passion in your chosen career is a need to help your client, to make sure that your clients are safe and secure in their dealings, and a deep caring in yourself to make your clients goals and wishes your own. A satisfaction that sits in your heart when your clients dreams are recognized, a thrill at having a part in creating your clients future. Passion is what turns a real estate agent into a Great Real Estate Agent. But this sword slices both ways, with out passion, you will watch your business wither and become stagnant.
Passion for your career is waking up in the morning ready and wanting to go to work, it is seeing that something needs to be done and making it happen with out griping or feelings of being put upon. Passion can be seen and felt by your clients, and by the other people you touch. So can the lack of passion.
If you find your passion slipping, you catch yourself grumbling in the mornings, or you get frustrated but demands of your clients or you begin to feel that you are spinning your wheels while others around you are still going strong, perhaps stepping back and taking a clear look at your life and your career.
All of us from time to time need to recharge, to take a long hard look at the life that we live and evaluate if we are indeed still on the path that we originally set out on. Or if your life choices have lead you into another direction entirely. This examination of your life and your life choices is never easy, but it is necessary to stay true to yourself. It will also let you know if you need to rethink a career. This isn’t a bad thing, Real Estate is demanding of your time and energies, it is up and down by the whims of what ever wind blows through the financial community, and it can drive a saint to spout forth ill mannered epithets from time to time. It is a wonderful career, but it isn’t for everyone.
If in your evaluation you find that you are right where you were meant to be, it is time to reclaim your passion. Ask yourself a few questions, why did I get into real estate in the first place? What did I feel when my first client bought or sold their house? What do I feel now? What changed my perspective? How would I want to be treated and what would I expect, if I was the client? When you’ve answered all the questions, when you’ve searched your soul to find that spark, then comes the true task.
You have to put WOW back into your business, you have to be enthusiastic, exuberant, and you have to fan that little spark into a flame. If you have kids, this might be easier for you than if you don’t. Spending time one on one with a small child, being with them while they explore their world, and are awe inspired by the grand and the minute is a force in itself. The wonder of life, will help you bring passion back to your life. Relieving stress and getting enough sleep will help as well.
Writing affirmations daily, or meditating on the passion for your career may allow you to relieve some of the weight and doubts. Spending your time with people who have a positive outlook, and who’s love of life and of their career is infectious, can be a positive influence in your life. It is also helpful to avoid people who grumble and gripe, or who have a negative comment about everything- they can drag you down faster than anything else. Our minds are subject to strong emotions, both positive and negative, feed your mind on those emotions that will help your personal and professional growth.
If your passion is burning brightly – keep up the good work, watch your stress levels, and have fun. If you are having fun and enjoying life, it can’t help but show in everything you do.
Be Passionate – Smile – You are a Real Estate Agent, what’s not to love!
