Definition of Real Estate Licensure
Licensure refers to the granting of a license, in this case a real estate license, which gives a real estate agent 'permission to practice.'
In general, such licenses are usually issued in order to regulate an activity that has been deemed to be dangerous or a threat to the person or the public or which may involve a high level of knowledge or specialized skill. The danger and skill elements are what drive local and federal governments to not allow a free-for-all, but rather to regulate this activity, and licensing is a well-established and convenient method of regulation.
