You’ve had all the classes, you passed your real estate exam, you’ve got your real estate license, done, right? Sorry, to tell you this but continuing education classes are in your future. Lots of them.
Agents call them clock hours, and quite a few real estate agents seem to forget about them until it’s time to renew their license then perform that mad scramble to get the required hours taken before they miss their renewal deadline.
Real estate training, is a way of life for you as a real estate professional. Not unlike ongoing education for teachers, lawyers and doctors, it is critical for your business. Some of the training will be mandatory, changes in the laws, ethics training, new or revised contracts and addendum’s, along with new issues that can affect how you sell property such as recalls, toxins, etc. Most of your real estate training however will be classes that you choose to broaden your knowledge in a particular area of real estate. There are courses in selling new construction, first time home buyers, and 1031 exchanges . There are proficiency courses to help you understand the roll of mortgage brokers, escrow agents, and title searches. You will be able to take classes to increase your knowledge of computers, real estate software, real estate related internet programs and even real estate marketing. The list is long and comprehensive.
Whether you are looking to add GRI after your name or to master the art of marketing, you will be bombarded with options. Take time to look at these options and choose courses that will help you to build your business, the way that you want it to grow. Having a plan, and working toward it will make it much easier to focus on real estate training that will suit you. You’ll never get away from the mandatory training, but with a goal in mind and a general plan of how to get there, you might just avoid the renewal rush.
