Montana Real Estate License

Montana Real Estate Pre-License Requirements

The State of Montana has set forth a few requirements that each applicant must meet before becoming eligible to receive their real estate license.  Those requirements are below:

  • All applicants must have graduated highschool with a diploma or have the equivalent, you might check with the GED Testing Center.
  • Applicants must successfully complete sixty hours of real estate pre-licensing education from a state approved real estate school.
  • Applicants are required to pass the Montana real estate exam with a score of eighty percent or better on the uniform test and a score of seventy percent or better on the state portion of the exam.
  • Applicants must be eighteen years of age or older.

Montana Real Estate Continuing Education Requirements

  • All licensed agents in the state of Montana will be required to complete a minimum of twelve hours of continuing education courses  in a state approved training facility each year.  This is an annual requirement.

Montana Real Estate License Reciprocity Agreements

Agents with active licenses in approved states, may be eligible to receive their Montana real estate license under the Montana reciprocal licensing agreements.

To receive your reciprocal license, you must meet the following:

  • Maintain your state license for the entire period that you hold a a Montana license.
  • Complete a reciprocal license application and return it to the Board of Realty Regulations.
  • Pay the licensing and application fees.  At the time of writing these fees are $122.50.

Update: As of  February 15th, 2009, the State Of Montana no longer has reciprocity agreements with Utah, Oregon and/or Idaho.  These have been canceled.
