Below are the pre-license, post-license and reciprocity information for obtaining a real estate license in Michigan. Michigan Pre-License Requirements:
In order to obtain a real estate license in the State of Michigan, all applicants must show proof that they have completed a minimum of 40 clock hours of State approved real estate fundamentals courses prior to them taking the exam. Any course must consist of:
- A minimum of forty clock hours of classroom instruction in fundamentals of real estate.
- There must be a minimum of four clock hours of civil rights law and equal opportunity in housing included within those forty hours.
Applicants must also meet the following criteria before being issued a michigan real estate license:
- As of 12/01/2007, applicants will be required to apply for their license online through the Commission website prior to taking the real estate exam.
- Applicants are not required to have a broker sponsoring them at the time of application, although a sponsoring broker will be required at the exam center, prior to testing.
- All applicants must successfully complete the Michigan real estate exam as issued.
Michigan Post-License Requirements:
The State of Michigan requires all licensee’s to complete 18 hours of continuing education within the 3-year license cycle. The course names and topic numbers must vary from course to course and licensee’s must complete a minimum of two clock hours of courses per calendar year in order for their license to be renewed.
Michigan Reciprocal Licensing Agreements:
At this time, Michigan does not share reciprocity with any other state. Should this change in the future we will update this page.
