Iowa Real Estate License
Information for Obtaining a Real Estate License in Iowa. Includes state licensing requirements and resources.
1. All applicants applying for a real estate license in Iowa are required to be recommended by an affiliating broker in order to be granted a license as provided in Iowa Code.
2. All real estate salespersons must be assigned to a licensed broker or brokerage firm and are not able to conduct business on an independent basis.
3. All real estate salesperson license applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
4. Any real estate license applicants whom have been convicted of any of the following crimes: forgery, embezzlement, obtaining money under false pretenses, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud, or any similar offenses in the United States or any foreign jurisdiction, may run the risk of being denied their real estate license.
5. Applicants must successfully complete a minimum of sixty classroom or computer–based hours pre-license education in the areas of real estate principles and practices.
6. Beginning January 1, 2009 and continuing after, all applicants will be required successfully complete twelve hours of Developing Professionalism and Ethical Practices, twelve hours of Buying Practices and twelve hours of Listing Practices. All of these educational requirements are in addition to the sixty hour salesperson pre-license course that was mentioned above.
7. All applicants are required to achieve a passing score on the real estate license examination as determined by the State of Iowa.
