How Does One Go About Buying An Apartment In Manhattan When Using A Real Estate Broker?

My husband and I are looking to buy an apartment in NYC using a real estate broker. However, I don’t know if we pick one broker and he helps us through everything and is our liason with all the other real estate agencies or we pick one broker from each agency.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated!!
