How Do I Get My Real Estate License?

Readers Question:

I want to get my California Real Estate License, but im not sure where to start. I checked with my local college and they dont offer anything for it. I prefer online classes, but all the ones im finding are a rip off or scam. I dont want to have to study book after book, what should i do?

First go to this link http://www.dre.ca.gov/exm_sales.html
Once you have read that page scroll down to Search for approved statutory / prelicense real estate course.
I took the on line course at Allied based out of Laguna it was not too expensive and pretty easy.

There are schools available, and you have to pass the state exam. Ask a realtor to recommend a school.

Most localities offer short-term real estate courses, that take several weeks and cost around $800. Once you complete and pass the course, you must take the state exam – usually around $100. If you pass that, you are issued a license.
Look in your phone book for ‘real estate classes’. If you live in a very small community, you may have to drive a bit for the closest. You must also pass a background check to get a license.

I got my real estate license by going to school online at Real Estate Express http://www.realestateexpress.com/
You have to find a proctor for your final exam (did mine at our local community college.) The course cost $300, the proctor $50, the state exam $140. I also bought a test helper book at Barnes and Noble for $25.
You then have to take your licensing exam with the state. In VA, you will also have to find a Broker to hold your license.
    Go for it!
