No Real Estate License? Buyer Beware!

The other day I received a very nice email from one of our visitors that wanted to share his bad experience with an unlicensed Realtor. Although our information here is geared towards prospective real estate agents rather than client’s, client’s are the heart of our business, so I felt this email could be beneficial to everyone stopping by the site.

Rather than just pasting his original email into an article and running with it, I thought it would be interesting to not only ask him to share his experience, but also his advice from a home buyer’s perspective. His response is below:

I recently bought a house on five acres of land. This was the most difficult thing I have ever done. Why? It did not need to be difficult or complicated. Not for the home buyer.

My real estate agent was terrible. The first thing you should do when thinking about buying a home is to check out your real estate agent. Find out how long the agent has had their license? You can also ask how many homes they have been a part of selling? Do not feel bad about asking questions. Buying this home and property maybe the biggest step you take in your life.

My real estate agent did a terrible job. He was not available to me or the seller. He made mistakes in the paperwork that cost valuable time. This ended up causing me to lose the house. The next thing you need to know is that you can fire your real estate agent and get another one. Do not feel like you owe a real estate agent anything. They are in it for the money, remember that.

The only person that is going to look out for your interest is you. Finding the right real estate agent is the most important thing you do when buying a new home. Educate yourself on the real estate laws of your state. Ask questions about what is necessary to gain a real estate license in your state. Consider getting a real estate lawyer to check over everything and protect you.

I would recommend that you go on to the Internet and acquire some sample testing and training materials. These will give you an idea of what you have in store for yourself when it is time to take the actual test. Aside from that, Practice, practice, practice since you may not have been in school for a while, retaining the information may be difficult at first.
